People go to Bromo to make the ceremony to feel the spirit of Independence and patriotism, and also to feel thankful of the independence had in Indonesia. Usually the group of students or mountaineer fulfill this mountain at Indonesia Independence Day held in August the 17^th. Another mountain that usually also fulfilled at this independence day is Semeru mountain. The second are when it comes to month of Kasodo Celebration held on the 10^th month of Tengger Lunary calendar at the 14^th day. Kasada ceremony interests many people all around the world as the heritage of Tengger people especially an Indonesian people generally that means about the sacrifaction to the Mother Of Nature. At the Kasada ceremonial event, the people of tTengger sacrifice their harvest

like vegetables, spices, rice, chicken, or the head of a lamb into the crater of Bromo as their thankful feeling to the earth. This cultural ceremony held based on the legend of Rara Anteng and Jaka Seger that become the histort of the name of “Tengger” itself. Rara Anteng are the grandchild of Majapahit Dinasty while Jaka Seger are the son of a Brahmana, the spiritualist family of old Javanese Hidu. History tells that one day, live a couple of husband and wife named Rara Anteng and Jaka Seger that are difficult to born a child. They’ve tried so hard to born a child for so long. Until one day they heard the misty voice that tells them to do some samadi or meditation in generally, and also fasting, as an effort to born a children. And god never broke His promises. Not so long after, they truly have a child until twenty five children. But once they asked to do samadi and fasting as and effort to have a child, there some terms and condition that must be obedient, that they must sacrifice their last child, later known named as Kesuma. As the parents, of course they are couldn’t do it. So Rara Anteng and Jaka Seger crossed their promises.

God was angry. One day, there was a big and terrible disaster happened in Tengger Village. The mount of Bromo erupted and finally kill Kesuma. Before he died, Kesuma said that he have sacrifice himself for the glory and the life of Tengger. People shouldn’t be sad. Kesuma once commanded the people of Tengger to sacrifice their harvest for the thanks to the Earth and God, and for the safety of Tengger. The ceremonies should be done forever by the children of Tengger. And the people of Tengger really do it until now which named by Kasada Ceremony.
